About the Tutors.......

Stu Edwards.

Stu established Allmusic Academy Guitar tuition in 1997 and enjoys teaching guitar to people of all ages and levels and seeing them progress in all aspects. He has guitar tutoring experience at St Johns College, Fairfield Intermediate and Fairfield College with years experience in N.C.E.A preparation.   His enthusiasm for music and guitar is his motivation to teach, share and encourage others to learn.  The results Stu's students regularly achieve are due to the commitment to excellence he believes in.  This was shown in 2007 when one of Stu's Classical students achived the highest mark in New Zealand for Trinity Grade One Classical with an impressive mark of 97% and a 99% pass in Theory in June 2009.

Stu has had experience in most areas of Guitar with a continued interest in a wide variety of styles.  He has played for 23 years and had the privilege of studying under some of the Waikato’s best tutors.  Having been tutored throughout this time by Rik Bernards (Wintec) in all facets of guitar, his knowledge base continues to grow.  In 2002 Stu completed his Grade 8 Classical Guitar exam through Trinity College London with Katya Skandera .  Stu commenced his B.M.A in Nov 2010 and continues to study music through to the higher levels of composition and considers the journey a never ending commitment of knowledge gathering.

Stu travelled to Australia in late 2006 as the guitarist in a 3 piece band to play at WRF Finance's Annual convention.

2007 saw Stu play  with the 11 piece NZ Blues Brothers Revue which performed through 2007 with a full brass section and back up vocalists.  The stylistic change was fantastic and opened alot of doors for future projects.

In 2008 - 2009 Stu formed and played in 'AKA' the six piece tribute show to TOTO, FOREIGNER & JOURNEY which was a huge challenge and a rewarding experience.  Getting to perform this music was a dream come true for Stu with some of the greatest guitar songs of all time being among the reportoire.  Talented musicians coming together always holds an element of magic about it and this was no exception.

2009 saw the St Johns College guitar programme start and in conjunction with the school Allmusic Guitar Tuition has gone on to see the students thrive in an exciting and productive environment.  The guitar programme has gone from strength to strength and continues to thrive in the school environment.

2010 - Stu has taken up the role at Vision College Hamilton instructing the degree students taking guitar as their major.  This was another exciting addition and development to mix of teaching Stu is involved with.  He continues at Vision college in 2012.

Having played in various bands over the years, Stu has been lead guitarist for the popular Waikato band 'HOMBRE' since it's formation in 1999. Eleven years on Hombre are still going strong with the original four members.  While the public performances are fewer they are still a special occasion when they come about.

Stu reviewed music for The Waikato Times music column from 2007 through to it's management change in 2011.  He is still actively involved with reviewing music for New Zealand Musician magazine and is passionate about new release music both local and international.
